An important message from The Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS)

The Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) understands the importance of undertaking a Hajj pilgrimage in accordance to the five pillars of Islam and wishes all Pilgrims a safe and holy journey.

It is important that all Pilgrims understand Australian Quarantine regulations as these regulations might affect souvenirs and items that are brought back to Australia.

You can download a copy of the fact sheet as it outlines what can and can’t be brought back into Australia, information about the arrival process and contact details to find out more information about Australian quarantine.

Typical items of quarantine concern include holy water, wood including rosary beads and crafts, food including raw nuts, ingredients and spices, plant material including raw tobacco, and animal items. These items could introduce pests and diseases into Australia and pose major risks to the Australian environment and agriculture industries so must be declared and inspected by quarantine officers on arrival in Australia.
